Season 1 - Prologue
Location: Various
Lieutenant Jules Mundy beamed over to the USS Columbia from the USS Pike. Mundy was one of about a dozen new officers beaming over. Their luggage would be sent to one of the cargo bays, along with other crates that the Pike was bringing to the Columbia.
Two human Security officers, one male, the other female, stood near the transporter operator, an engineering chief, female. "Welcome aboard the USS Columbia. I am Ensign Fred Polk, and I will be handing out room and duty assignments for you. As that most of you are freshly graduated from the Academy, you may feel overwhelmed, don't. You will get used to the daily goings on board." He checked his tricorder. "Lieutenant Mundy. You will follow Ensign Caruthers to the bridge to report in officially."
Mundy stepped off the transporter pad and approached the two security officers. "Thank you." He looked at Caruthers, "Please, lead on." Caruthers nodded, walked towards the doors to the transporter room, they opened, and Mundy was close behind. They walked towards a turbolift, and once there, they entered. Mundy had tried to make small talk with the Ensign, but she wasn't responding. "Bridge." she said, and the turbolift started moving upward.
The turbolift stopped, the doors opened, Caruthers walked out, Mundy soon followed. They onto the bridge, making their way down to the consoles in front of the Command chair. She spoke up. "Commander, this is Lieutenant Jules Mundy. He was arrived, sir."
Thoria was under the console that controlled Helm Control, Columbia was undergoing a crew rotation and minor general refit so everyone was needed to work on engineering duties. Hearing the calls for her she stood up, standing in front of in front of the operators seat, she wore her standard duty trousers and undershirt with her jacket slumped over navigators seat.
She spoke up "Welcome, aboard I'm Commander Thoria zh'Kela Security Chief and First Mate. A pleasure to meet you. Take a seat," Thoria motioned to the Captain's seat, which was a few steps behind Mundy, with the spanner in her hand. Sitting herself down in the navigators seat she started small talk before getting down with the bureaucracy. "So Jules, may I call you Jules? What brought you to serve on Columbia?"
Sitting in the captain's chair, unless a person was assigned temporary command, was frowned on, so he remained standing. "I prefer JD, Commander, and a pleasure meeting you ma'am, or do you prefer sir?" He paused. "I had been onboard the Portland since I graduated from the Acadamy. It was a fine ship, but I knew that I would never be the Chief Helmsman, and when I saw that the Columbia needed a qualified Chief Helmsman, I put in my transfer request, which was approved by the Portland's captain and first officer."
"Nice to meet you JD, anything is fine just make sure you don't undermine me," Thoria replied with a smile that could put people's worries at ease. "Portland is a good ship, with a good crew. Let's get to the boring stuff now hmm? Have you read who'll be serving in your department and issued personnel to serve on the bridge of Beta and Charlie? There are some good people there unless you're wanting a fresh start with a fresh team that is."
"I haven't been able to read all the personnel files for the people in my department, so if you have any recommendations, I would appreciate it, commander."
"Ensign Charlie Richardson is a hothead but he's experienced, worked as a shuttle pilot on some pirate planet before Starfleet but he still has feelings for his ex who is on Beta shift, so it's best if he replaces Andrew on Charlie who's sadly leaving Starfleet. Holly, the incumbent deputy and Beta who cares about her looks more than flying so maybe replace her with Sonak or Finlay... Yet again, there are some cadets who might need the experience Lieutenant."
Mundy nodded. "I'll access the files of all the people assigned to my department, set up dates to meet them face to face, then I will make my decision, if that is acceptable to you, commander?"
"Still your department Lt," Thoria reminded him "If you don't have any questions for me then you're dismissed."
"Thank you, commander." Mundy turned and headed to the turbolift. When the doors closed, he tapped his commbadge. "Lieutenant Mundy to all Flight personnel. Report to hanger bay 1 in 30 minutes. Out." When the doors opened, he headed towards the main computer area, to pick up the data on all members of the department.
